Start by gleaning inspiration from our extensive range of furniture items, all crafted with care and precision to ensure perfect furniture pieces designed to suit your décor style.

Your Bed Base

While a bed base is usually more functional than decorative, it’s still a vital piece of furniture that requires careful consideration:

–           Think about whether you want something simple or a piece with a bit of personality. Our Komati River Bed is ideal if you’re looking for a bed base with flair. Plus, it comes with a beautiful fabric headboard built in.

–           Look into the different materials available. We highly recommend wooden bases, which are durable, aesthetically pleasing, and versatile.

–           Ensure the base is sturdy. The sturdier, the better, as it will help reduce noise and motion transfer to give you a more peaceful night’s sleep.

Your Pedestals

Pedestals can complement your bed while also providing extra storage space:

–           Before buying, think about the items you might want to store inside (or on top of) your pedestals. This will help you decide if you’d prefer multiple drawers or a single drawer with a more spacious cupboard underneath.

–           The height of your bedside pedestals should be close to the height of your mattress, ideally within 5cm above it.

–           Select the width of your pedestals based on the size of your bed. For instance, pedestals around 50 to 60cm wide work well for smaller beds, while those approximately 80cm wide help to balance out king-sized beds.

Your Chest of Drawers

Your chest of drawers should be equal parts aesthetic and functional. Here’s how to strike that balance:

–           For smaller rooms, opt for a tall, slim chest and a wider, more elaborate design for bigger bedrooms.

–           Consider what you will be storing in your chest of drawers as this will influence its ideal layout, including the number of drawers and their sizes.

–           The chest’s material plays a huge role in its appearance and durability – wood is a popular choice for its versatility.

Your Headboard

A headboard can transform your bed from a comfortable place to sleep to the highlight of your bedroom:

–           Size matters. Your headboard should be slightly wider than the bed and tall enough to provide back support when sitting up.

–           Choose your style. An upholstered headboard is the go-to for luxurious comfort, but a wooden headboard gives that ultra-modern, minimalistic and rustic look.

Your Benches

While benches aren’t considered traditional pieces of bedroom furniture, they do add texture and character to the room. They’re most commonly placed at the foot of the bed or under a window to create a cosy nook:

–           If placing it at the foot of your bed, look into your size options. The best practice is for the bench to be 80 to 90% of the width of your bed and a few centimetres shorter than the total height from the floor to the top of your mattress.

–           Think about the ideal material. Wooden benches look great with most bed bases and headboards, and they’re versatile, too. Simply decorate them with cushions and throws to complement your bedroom’s colour scheme.

Your Kist

A kist is another piece of bedroom furniture that adds extra storage, and it also doubles up as a comfortable place to sit:

–           Like benches, most people place their kist at the foot of their bed. The same “rules” apply here regarding sizing.

–           Look for a kist with interior storage space that suits your needs. Some have useful features like drawers or shelves, while others have a hinged lid. It’s about personal preferences and what you intend to store inside.
